What is it? Let's break it down into the two main elements : - a) 4 X stands for eXplore, eXpand, eXterminate and eXploit b) In this type of game, nothing happens whilst you issue orders, decide what to build, where to send ships, who to negotiate with, who to declare war on or which planet to colonise. And there's more to it than that. Theres the question of what to research next, missiles, diplomatic relations, ship construction, defense bases etc.. Of-course, if you don't like to manage any or all of it, the AI will take care of it for you! It can be easy or hard, however you like it. More importantly, nothing can happen to you whilst you make these decisions, whether you spend 2 minutes or two hours, you're safe. Action only takes place when you decide to hit that end turn button. So, if you are in the middle of a game turn, and the phone rings, or the pizza arrives, your game will be safe. Well unless you are in a multi-player game, in which case, get the pizza delivered to your desk ;D

One question extending from that. A turn based game lends itself to PbEM play (play by email) but not an absolute. Will this game also be built around pbem capability?

Absolutely! PBEM is one piece of functionality we'll certainly be trying to incorporate, as the capacity to play a game via PBEM will expand its playability, and hopefully its fanbase.

Oops, a bit of a descriptive oversight on my part!
Yes, we'd absolutely want to incorporate PBEM/PBW functionality in the game.

Again, another small point. While I fully appreciate PBW and all it has done, I will be able to provide some tips and testing in order to shift reference from PBW to the general subject of hosting. Without violating the original plan we might be able to slightly expand that without adding overhead to the project.

That certainly sounds like something worth considering.
